2025 Earnest Montepulciano

A$38.00

Deep red purple, medium bodied, with excellent depth of flavour. Unmistakably blackberry, tea leaf and rich cocoa. Drink fresh now and over the next 5+years. Enjoy with Eggplant Parmigiano or Rack of Lamb with all the trimmings.

Montepulciano is commonly associated with the Italian region of Abruzzo, and confusingly “vino Nobile di Montepulciano” is actually made from Sangiovese and comes from the area around the town of Montepulciano in Tuscany.

No confusion here, our Montepulciano is from the Pollux vineyard just north of McLaren Vale. This heat and sun loving grape handled everything the 2025 vintage could throw at it and seriously delivered the goods. We’ve made a Montey from this vineyard before and six years on, we couldn’t stay away from an old favourite.

Get some.

  • Every Vintage is different, which is stating the obvious and Vintage 2025 was certainly no exception

As we sit down now, put pen to paper and write this mail out, much of South Australia in general, McLaren Vale specifically has experienced the driest 15 months on record since the Bureau Of Meteorology was established

For we Ramblers it is the reason why we grow and make the so-called Climate Appropriate varieties that we do

Vintage 2025 was a great Litmus Test to thoroughly assess how they can handle the conditions and ultimately long term “Are they going to work?”

We are delighted to say that the usual suspects in Arinto, Grillo, Montepulciano & Nero d’Avola have performed beautifully

  • Located on Chalk Hill Road, just north of the township of McLaren Vale between Angove’s Warboys Vineyard & Bondar’s Rayner Vineyard. Vines established in 2016 have now reached full maturity. Pollux is north-facing ensuring this late ripening variety achieves optimum maturity evenly in our warm mediterranean climate. The east/west gully that traverses the vineyard is a tributary to Peddlers Creek that winds it’s way to the Gulf Of Saint Vincent 12km away and provides perfect air flow at night during an increasingly common hot/dry weather event.

Pollux is owned and managed by Chalk Hill Viticulture and gas been Organically Certified since 2016

  • Wild yeast, no added acid, enzymes or fining agents. Post MLF SO2 addition only. Matured in old French oak puncheons for 6 months 100% whole berries are destemmed, cold soaked for 2 to 3 days prior to natural fermentation in open fermenters. Hand plunged twice a day for 7 days in small format vessels which enables better control of fermentation temperatures.

Bottled in June 2025 Only 864 bottles made.
