2025 Gamay

A$40.00

Gamay, a distant cousin of Pinot Noir, ticks all those boxes. We love the variety for it’s opulent fruit generosity with modest levels of alcohol.

Why did we make a Gamay? Because we frickin love Beaujoulais!!!

We have always enjoyed drinking lighter to medium bodied wines regardless of the variety and/or origin that are fruit-driven, juicy and pair beautifully with tapas, charcuteries alfresco-style. For us

  • Type: Red

  • Variety: 100% Gamay native to France

  • Appellation: Adelaide Hills

  • Vintage: 2025

  • Alc: 13.1%

  • Every Vintage is different, which is stating the obvious and Vintage 2025 was certainly no exception

As we sit down now, put pen to paper and write this mail out, much of South Australia in general, McLaren Vale specifically has experienced the driest 15 months on record since the Bureau Of Meteorology was established

For we Ramblers it is the reason why we grow and make the so-called Climate Appropriate varieties that we do

Vintage 2025 was a great Litmus Test to thoroughly assess how they can handle the conditions and ultimately long term “Are they going to work?”

We are delighted to say that the usual suspects in Arinto, Grillo, Montepulciano & Nero d’Avola have performed beautifully

  • in true negociant style we’ve sourced the fruit from Mark Vella who was the first person in the Adelaide Hills to plant gamay. Barristers Block is located just north of Woodside, 415m above sea level and is a mix of sandy loam over quartz and ironstone.

  • Hand harvested, open fermented with 25% whole bunch – reminiscent of a cru Beaujolais  hand plunged twice daily and 7 day skin contact time. Pressed direct to a single seasoned french oak demi muid. Lees stirred fortnightly for 3 months

Bottled under cork in June 2025 to retain freshness

    Only 864 bottles made.
